Limewire...?

I understand the that Limewire itself is safe to download... But are the stuff you download (for free) safe? Do they contain viruses? spyware? or other stuff like that? Or does it depend?

Limewire...?antivirus downloads

The ''Limewire'' programme itself does not have viruses.

But many of the files available for download using ''Limewire'' are virus ridden.

A better choice would be ''Ares''

''Ares'' --- http://aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net/

That would depend on what you are trying to download. Audio (mp3)(wav)(flac) and video files (avi)(mpeg)(mpg) are pretty much safe to download as far as virus is concerned but you may be getting into legal trouble concerning copyright infringement.

When downloading programs is where virus come into the picture. Gnutella1 , Limewire's P2P network , is loaded with them. Mostly in small program files and game cracks.

If you choose to download via p2p networks always have a good virus scanner running and scan all files before opening them. Also you should protect yourself from anti-p2p groups by useing an ip blocker program, peerguardian2 is a good one and they update their blocklist regularly.

As far as limewire goes it is dead. It now contains a copyright filter. I would suggest going with frostwire. It was developed by many of limewires creators and contains no copyright filter.
