My PC is running really slow!?

I just got a PC and downloaded AVG free anti virus and Spyware and it's now running really slow. What do I need to do to resolve this?

Clear your cookies and try a systems restore, this may rectify it.

open msconfig disable all the startup items
Do not reinstall Windows this is totally unnecessary. I agree with others here that either:

1) AVG is now scanning your system, and once it has finished it should go back to normal speed

or

2) You did not un-install your old anti-virus software before installing AVG.

Installing anti-virus and anti-spyware packages will slow your system down a little, but it should not totally cripple it.

It removes all the trash files that are created while surfing through the net. Use its Issues section once a while to delete all the unused registry keys. Another good cleaner, Disk Cleaner, can be used along with CCleaner for even better results.
